The mind-body connection facilitated by the central nervous system is intricate and amazing! There is much to be said about taking care of both our mind and our body on our journey to whole body wellness! We have two main branches of our nervous system - sympathetic and parasympathetic! The parasympathetic nervous system is our "rest and digest", while the sympathetic is responsible for the "fight or flight" response. When we are experiencing internal or external stressors that the body perceives as dangerous, our sympathetic nervous system will send signals to release "stress" hormones. Relaxation/Wellness massage helps decrease the firing of the sympathetic nervous system and awaken the parasympathetic nervous system! It's then that we can BEST heal, rejuvenate, carry out important bodily functions, regulate blood pressure, relieve feelings of anxiousness, stress and worry, and generally feel well. It is also important in decreasing the perception of pain which happens in the brain.
